My Five Fave Photos

This blog post is about photos I took that are my favourite.

1.

I took this photo at a field near my house. I like this photo because the foreground is a silhouette, and the grass and the cloud make strong horizontal lines, I also really like the pattern in the clouds at the top of the photo.

2.

This photo was taken outside a church near my old house. I like it because there are strong vertical lines in the background. I also like the way the sun is shining oin the left side of her face.

3.

I like this photo because it has a very simple colour palette. There's a little bit of yellow almost in a rule of thirds spot, and then red is surrounding it. The little bit of green in the top right hand corner is
complementary to the red which I think really unifies the piece.

4.

I took this photo outside my old house. Again, it's a very simple colour palette. I like this photo because it's a narrow depth of field shot. The grass in the foreground is really blurry, then the middle of the photo and the tree stump is in focus, and the background is out of focus.

5.
I took this photo at Casa Loma in Toronto. I like this ohoto because the fron tof the fountain is in focus then the rest of the photo is blurry. I also like the ripples in the water.

Luka Magnotta

On Wednesday, June 6 the hands and feet of Lin Jun were mailed to two schools in Vancouver. His torso was left at an airport in Montreal. This murder was committed by Luka Magnotta. I am absolutely disgusted by this. Committing murder was bad enough but to put his family through even more sorrow and mail out his body parts. It's crazy, some things peope will do..

Why I like Harry Potter

I first read The Harry Potter books when I was 10 and I loved the adventure. I loved growing up with them. This series is the only one that I can think of where we grew up with the actors and actresses that played the characters in the movies. Harry Potter is my favourite book series for a lot of reasons but I think that the biggest reason is because when I'm sad that's what I turn to to get my mind off of whatever is bothering me. The best part is that when I reread the books I always learn something new or remember something that I may have forgotten about. I like the books a lot more than the movies because there's always so much that is left out of the movies. Another thing I like about Harry Potter is Pottermore. Pottermore is a site by J.K. Rowling where the fans can interact and go through all the books in a different way. The best part of the fandom is that it's more than a bunch of people that like this. We make friends with people that live halfway around the world. It's truly amazing in every aspect.

Rowing

Three mornings a week I go rowing with the KCI rowing club. I have to get up at 4:00am, so I'm ready to leave at 5:30am. Once I get to the place where I row, I have to sign out a boat, set up the stretchers, put the boat I sign out on the stretchers and check to make sure there's nothing wrong with it, then I bring the boat to the water and put the oars into the oar locks. Once all that is done it's time to row. The first time I went rowing was unlike anything I've ever done. It's exhilarating. I don't even know how to explain it, but it's amazing. When I first went in a boat by myself it was even more fun, but it's also scary. Singles are really easy to tip so there's that fear at the beginning, but after a while you get used to it and you learn how to keep it from tipping. If you don't mind waking up early, I recommend joining the KCI rowing club next year for everyone that goes to KCI. It is really rewarding.

Amy Beamer - Human Resources

Amy Beamer is a Human Resources Person. They are in charge of interviewing people for jobs. They also deal with complaints from employees. She came to our class and I think many of us learned a lot from her. She told us how an employer can't make you work for less that 3 hours a shift and if you work for more than 6 hours you get 2 breaks. She told us that some employers often hire young people because they think that they don't know their rights, and a lot of us don't. I didn't know any of that until she told us. She also said that you should go into the workplace knowing your rights.
